What Makes Playter Estates So Great?

Playter Estates is a fantastic neighbourhood just north of Danforth Avenue. Long held as a higher-end area along the Danforth, Playter Estates is an excellent family neighbourhood! The neighbourhood prides itself on how tight-knit it is. Many families are drawn to the area thanks to the highly desirable Jackman Avenue Public School, which features a unique rooftop garden.

Another great bonus for residents – the neighbourhood’s one-way streets create a quiet, peaceful atmosphere by limiting non-local traffic. For outdoors fans, Playter Estates has easy access to the Don Valley Trails, the opportunities for exploration are endless!

Types of Homes

Playter Estates is known for its detached and semi-detached homes, most in the Edwardian and Victorian architectural styles. However, they stand out as being slightly larger than in neighbouring communities like Riverdale. While most homes in Playter Estates were built around the turn of the century, a few of the area’s original farmhouses still stand. These unique and beautiful properties feature stone walls and gates.

You Should See

Our favourite grocery store in Toronto is located in Player Estates, The Big Carrot Community Market at the Carrot Common – a co-op that offers the finest foods without the high-end glamour you find at Whole Foods. Just south of Player Estates, you will find one of Toronto’s largest outdoor spaces – Riverdale Park East. Riverdale Park East has everything you could want from a public park and more. The park features a running track, skating rink, swimming pool, tennis courts, ball diamonds, great tobogganing, dedicated picnic area and playground. It’s also one of the best places in the city to catch a sunset over the skyline!

Neighbourhood Hotspots

The Danforth Music Hall is one of Toronto’s best concert venues, featuring many of the who’s who and breaking international acts. It’s worth grabbing a bite and a beer at Allen’s before the show. If it’s summer, be sure to request a table at Allens’s back patio! For fans of scotch, you won’t find a better selection than Allen’s top rail. The neighbourhood also features some of the best Greek eats in the city. Start with one of our favourites, Mezes. A great option that truly will give you a “taste of the Danforth!” For great pizza, check out Pizzeria Libretto!

Getting Around

Thanks to its proximity to the Don Valley Parkway, Playter Estates offers easy access to downtown and the north end of the city. It’s also one of the best neighbourhoods for transit riders. Broadview Station (TTC) offers regular streetcar and subway service across Toronto. Residents also enjoy the recently created bike lanes along the Danforth, particularly on warmer days.
