Toronto has something to offer everyone! People have unique needs and wishes of a neighbourhood. Being single in Toronto typically means that the more family oriented neighbourhoods are less of a focus – whereas vibrant, entertaining, social spaces can resonate for those who have fewer responsibilities and time commitments outside of work. However, it must not be assumed that being single that there are no children involved. There could be full-time parenting through to shared parenting. Everyone has different needs. It’s essential to consider all that matters to the individual. This blog’s focus is on a topic that isn’t often considered in the blogosphere but it’s a fact of life at least at one stage amongst the many life stages: where to live as a single in Toronto. So, let’s get started!

King West – The vibrant, energetic, urban walkable hood:

25 years ago King West was home to run down buildings, houses that hadn’t been well maintained and very little culinary delights or culture for that matter. A big turning point was when the Advertising agencies moved in. They saw that raw possibilities along King Street West – the brick buildings were reminiscent of what was happening in SoHo, NYC. The Ad agencies arrived, then the cool factor skyrocketed. It’s hard to imagine that people didn’t want to live here in the 90s. Now, look at this stretch through to Liberty Village. It’s amongst the most densely populated areas of Toronto. Nowadays there area great restaurants, entertainment and cafes through this strip. It’s hard to beat as a single person. The number of people that walk to work along King makes it much like a fashion runway! Very stylish with a major cool factor!

King West is hard to beat if you are single and lookin’ to mingle!

Yorkville – Posh and luxury in the heart of the city:

Have you ever passed through Yorkville during the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF)? That buzz is hard to beat. Not to mention the people watching, specifically the celebrity citings. Yorkville is as close as Toronto gets to Monaco, London, NYC and select parts of Vancouver and L.A. There are supercars at every turn, all of the posh and luxurious amenities you could ask for – have a look at Yorkville’s finest condos, here. And, if this isn’t your demographic you can be near enough to Yorkville without paying the full price tag – ask us how, here. There are some amazing restaurants and bars to meet up with friends and meet new friends!

Young & Eligible (err, Yonge & Eglinton) – Uptown’s downtown:

Yonge and Eglinton continue to evolve into Toronto’s uptown-downtown. The number of condos that continue to be built is incredible. There is a great mix of families and singles here. It’s not uncommon for those living in the condos and apartments to dream of buying their North Toronto, Davisville Village, Chaplin Estates, Lawrence Park and Lytton Park neighbourhoods. Many people simply don’t want to leave the Yonge and Eglinton area once they move in. It’s no wonder that the neighbourhood now offers so many restaurant and entertainment options to serve their evolving needs.

Have kids? The schools are hard to beat…keep in mind that due to the number of residents you may not be guaranteed that you get the school you want! If you are wanting more family oriented neighbourhoods here is a great start.

Leslieville – Hip, youthful with options for children:

Once considered “too far” from downtown is finally seen as “not at all far” from downtown. The DVP was long seen as the great divide. But, let’s be honest it isn’t and that was a small version of our city! Roncesvalles and Parkdale are much further than Leslieville – all of which are in hot demand however, the latter is far more accessible. Street Car Developments has been assembling land for years and this is why we see so many new condos and cranes in the hood. For those singles looking for condos then Riverside and Carlaw have all you could ask for. This is also a great area for children with the number of community centres, including the revamped Regent Park Community Centre and the new YMCA in the Canary District.
