What Makes The Annex So Great?

Known as one of Toronto’s most beloved and unique downtown neighbourhoods, The Annex is an eclectic area with youthful vibrancy and a hip urban feel. Within the Annex Toronto neighbourhood, you’ll find everything, from urban sushi restaurants and wallet-friendly pizza joints, to second-hand bookstores and neighbourhood cafes.

Despite all the great neighbourhood stores and shopping the Annex offers, the area is largely residential, and the Annex real estate is full of Victorian and Edwardian architecture that stands out with remarkable distinction.

With so many great places to see, and things to do, the Annex, Toronto is truly an area that offers something for everyone – and even made my list of the best places to live in Toronto.

You Should See

Home to Toronto’s most prestigious university, the University of Toronto is one of the places that has made the Annex a household name thanks to the students in Toronto neighbourhoods. For more of a commercial vibe, stroll along Bloor Street east of Bathurst to check out the myriad of stores on display (and even the remains of Honest Ed’s, whose presence defined this area for decades – and whose distinctive sign will once again light up the street in the coming years).

Neighbourhood Hotspots

There is so much to do and see in The Annex that you won’t be disappointed living here. Along Bloor Street you will find a great selection of bars, cafes and some of the best restaurants in Toronto. One of the most loved places to get sushi in the Annex (and even the city), Sushi on Bloor has been serving everything from California rolls to bento boxes fresh – and at a great price. If you’re into films, you’ll also want to check out Bloor Cinema, which is home to the hugely popular Hot Docs film festival. There is also the added convenience of being close to Seaton Village (West Annex) and Yorkville.

Getting Around

Don’t own a vehicle? Or just don’t want to? There’s no need in the Annex. The neighbourhood is highly accessible by subway, via St. George and Spadina Stations, as well as by streetcar via the Bathurst and Spadina streetcars. Plus, with the Annex real estate provides easy access to the downtown core, living in the Annex allows you to live close to everything else Toronto offers.
