I had a long over due catch up with a long time friend who was visiting the city. He now resides on magnificent golf course on a Caribbean Island. From time to time he comes back to Toronto to visit with friends and family. This return trip was to golf with his family for the weekend. Not a bad life!

This friend began as a family friend, then mentor as I began working in Marketing and Advertising (pre-real estate career). Over those years we became friends. I was incredibly grateful that he trusted me to buy a home around 9 years ago. I was early in my career at the time but he trusted me to assist him. It was an honour as he knew me back when I was a pre-teen and as an awkward teenager at Lawrence Park Collegiate Institute (LPCI)

He was buying back into the market after a hiatus of a number of years. He was getting back on his feet when it came to home ownership. That purchase in Bedford Park (near Yonge and Lawrence in North Toronto) was a wonderful home for him for quite some time. in time he decided to move to this magical Caribbean Island a few years back. Once he decided to do so he rented out his home to a wonderful family that has cared for this space as much as he did. It was a perfect match.

In the last year he purchased an investment property near Davisville and Yonge. The thought has been to accumulate property in a very sturdy market.

Interestingly enough he was telling me that he may in fact purchase another one in the coming 12 months. Time will tell. But, we had a great conversation about what that would look like and most importantly whether that makes sense for him short term and long term.

I am incredibly happy for him. A few wise and patience decisions have given him a great deal of financial security today and long term. What better way to live than to choose where you live, knowing that you have money in the bank and investment properties that have beget a great deal of wealth.

I am also so grateful to have been the man he trusted at the beginning and in the subsequent years – it means a lot to have built that trust and to be called upon to assist with questions along the way.

Well done J.C.!
