windfields main house

Windfields is one of the newer planned neighbourhoods of Toronto. and it’s no wonder it’s fast become one of the city’s most luxurious neighbourhoods. Here’s our guide on everything you need to know about Windfields.

History

Originally this Toronto neighbourhood was home to the Windfields Farm. The land was subsequently sold to developers in the 1960s. The planned community called Windfields began in the 1970s and finished in the 1980s. For anyone who has driven through the area, you will have noticed that the architecture is very much of the ’70s and ’80s aesthetic. Many split levels and bungalows can be found. That being said, several new homes have been built in recent years as the desire for land and space has peaked the attention of Toronto’s wealthy. Windfields western border runs alongside Toronto’s most exclusive neighbourhood, The Bridle Path. So it does not wonder that Widndfields has flourished in recent years.

Accessiblity

Windfields is a more car-centric neighbourhood considering that there are so few shops and restaurants within walking distance. There are bus stops, and there is a GO Station not too far away as well.

Shops

For the most part, the Windfields neighbourhood is residential. There are shopping destinations not far away. These include the outdoor, luxury-oriented mall called Shops at Don Mills. Another shopping option is just on the other side of HWY 401, Bayview Village, a long-standing shopping mall where you can find many luxury brands. Do you see the theme here? Yes, this is a wealthy neighbourhood with large homes.

Arguably Toronto’s top hockey equipment store, for many decades, can also be found nearby – Just Hockey. The name says it all.  This was the go-to shop for all of our hockey gear growing up. The best skate sharpening as well!
