Corso Italia Neighbourhood Guide
Over the last century, many Italians and Portuguese families immigrated to Canada. Those who chose Toronto found themselves in the College Street area, which became known as Little Italy. As the years have progressed onwards, many of these families moved to areas north of the city. However, there were those families that liked the feeling and accessibility of our vibrant city. These folks moved to what became known as Corso Italia – just a few major streets north of Little Italy – St Clair Avenue West, near Dufferin Street and westward. Corso Italia is a great area to buy a house in!
Corso Italia Houseing
Many of the houses in Corso Italia date back 80-100 years of age. Slightly on the younger side in comparison to a neighbourhood like The Annex. The Corso Italia houses range from semi-detached houses to detached houses. 2 storey houses are most common while there are some 2 1/1 and 3 storey houses. The clearest example is that the homes are slightly smaller than Little Italy and Trinty Bellwoods houses. There are great starter homes in Corso Italia that have a more European look and feel.
Your Neighbours
As Toronto real estate has become more valuable over recent years, there has been a shift to seeking affordable housing. Many young families have turned their focus to this neighbourhood as an answer to their housing needs. As this influx of families and young personals move in, they find themselves nestles between many kind Italian and Portuguese families – in fact, many of our clients soon discover that their neighbours have thriving vegetable gardens in their backyards! Cultural roots remain strong in Corso Italia.
Cafes & Restaurants
As you likely would guess, there are all of the cappuccinos and lattes you could dream of! We recommend Wallace Espresso as a great option to give you a caffeine boost! Food is celebrated up and down St. Clair Avenue West. A must, particularly in the summer, is to stop into La Paloma for a Gelato! Another favourite of ours is the pulled pork at The Bull BBQ Pit. And, when in Corso Italia, check out Agi0 Italian Restorante for the area’s best Italian foods!

Getting Around
The dedicated TTC streetcar line that runs along St. Clair Avenue West offers a swift trip to Bathurst Station and Yonge Street. Rush hour can prove to be a little slow when driving as this streetcar line has taken over a lane in each direction. That being said, cycling in Toronto has become a more popular and safer option for residents!
