90 sumach hard loft living room Toronto

Ask nine out of ten condo buyers, and they likely would prefer buying a loft in Toronto. A condo loft with a distinct look and feel versus a more typical condo apartment which may consist of drywall and windows. A big reason that so many people wish to have a loft is partly that these living spaces in Toronto are less common and a little more expensive – no question that the aspirational lifestyle aspects are desired. Most of the lofts in Toronto are located in old Toronto, which makes up much of Toronto’s downtown core.

Hard Loft Conversion

Toronto’s hard loft conversion is the most desired of lofts. The reason being is that there aren’t many industrial buildings that remain empty to convert into condo lofts. This is a finite market. A finite market means there is always demand from Toronto condo buyers. A hard loft typically consists of exposed wood and brick, high ceilings, and a few walls separating the spaces. Some of the larger units have been modified to allow for more rooms as many families choose to live in the large hard lofts for the SoHo feel!

Soft Loft

A soft loft is a loft shape and shares many similarities with a modern, progressive space. The ceilings are typically higher than in a more cookie-cutter condo. The developer may have replicated the industrial feel with poured concrete floors and walls, and the windows are likely floor to ceiling. This is another great option for buyers as it evokes a unique downtown, urban feel. Soft lofts were originally seen along King Street West near the advertising and design agencies – again a way of mimicking the draw of SoHo living – here in Toronto.
